Total Awareness Is A Costly Illusion

Trying to read everything creates shallow comprehension and constant cognitive drag. Selective awareness is more effective: read less, but with explicit signal categories tied to business consequence.

Build A Signal Profile

Define core categories such as capability leaps, cost shifts, policy movement, distribution changes, and adoption proof. Assign daily, weekly, or monthly cadence based on consequence of missing each category.

Use layered reading: quick scan, selective deep read, then one-sentence implication notes. End the session when top categories are covered. Additional browsing after that point usually reduces focus more than it adds value.

Add a weekly miss-detection review and a team recap ritual. Reading less works when filtering rules are clear and shared across functions.
